Flight and The Climb (Cassandra Teo , June 09)

Flight
Cassandra Teo (June 09)
I stretch my wings and take flight
High above all - so that I might
Gather with my flock and soar
Soar till we can’t soar no more
The world below looks so small
The world below looks so packed
Little ants scurrying here and there
Ants with anxiety, stress and even despair?
We work, we play, we laugh
High, high above all
Tireless in our designated tasks
Enjoying and living in the moment
High above all
That fret and worry
We go about our work
Light-hearted and cheery
In a world of our own, I am free
Free to come and go
Free to do as I please, you see
Free to be my own as I want to be
Then I awaken and perceive
The locked cage, my clipped wings
I awaken and comprehend
It was all but a dream
A dream of a life
That has come to an end

The Climb
I look up, I look at you
You tell me to go on
I take my first step, my first grip
I pull myself up and keep going on
Slowly, hesitantly
Biting my lip, concentrating
Always looking up
Knowing you're my belay
My foot misses, I slip!
Arms flaying, I crash
Shock reverberates throughout
You call up, cringing I regain my hold
And pull myself up once more
